Klacid XL 500mg Extended Release Tablets

Klacid XL 500mg Extended Release Tablets are a type of antibiotic medication used to treat various bacterial infections. This medication contains clarithromycin, which belongs to the macrolide antibiotic group. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the growth of bacteria that cause infections.

Therapeutic Indications:

• Respiratory Tract Infections: Klacid XL is effective in treating infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
• Throat Infections: It is used to treat throat infections like pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
• Skin and Tissue Infections: The medication is also used to treat skin and tissue infections, including impetigo, folliculitis, erysipelas, furunculosis, and infected wounds.
• Other Infections: It can also be used to treat mycobacterial infections and H. pylori infections when combined with other medications.

Dosage and Administration:

Klacid XL is available in the form of modified-release tablets, which means the active substance is slowly released over time. The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 12 years of age is one tablet taken once a day for 5-14 days. For severe infections, the dose may be increased to two tablets per day.

Important Information:

• Contraindications: Do not take Klacid XL if you are allergic to clarithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin or azithromycin. Also, avoid taking it with ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, as this combination can result in serious side effects.
• Side Effects: Common side effects include difficulty falling asleep (insomnia), taste changes, and gastrointestinal issues. If you experience severe skin reactions, such as red and scaly skin rash with pustules and vesicles (exanthematous pustulosis), contact your doctor immediately.
• Storage: Keep the medication out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use the medicine after the expiry date stated on the pack. Dispose of unused medications properly by consulting your pharmacist.

Ingredients:

Each modified-release tablet contains 500mg of clarithromycin. The other ingredients include anhydrous citric acid, sodium alginate, sodium and calcium alginate, lactose, povidone K30, talc, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and hypromellose.
