Loperamide: Effective Relief for Diarrhea Symptoms.

Loperamide is a long-acting antidiarrheal medication used to control nonspecific diarrhea and chronic diarrhea caused by inflammatory bowel disease or gastroenteritis. It works by slowing down the movements of the intestines, which helps to decrease electrolyte loss and fluid secretion. This medication is available over-the-counter and is often sold under brand names like Diamode and Imodium.

However, high doses of loperamide can cross the blood-brain barrier, potentially causing central opioid effects and toxicity.
