How It Works

Important Information

• Usage: Tygacil is indicated for patients 18 years and older for treating complicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia.
• Dosage: The recommended dosage regimen involves an initial dose of 100 mg, followed by 50 mg every 12 hours, administered over approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
• Contraindications: Tygacil is not indicated for diabetic foot infections or hospital-acquired pneumonia, including ventilator-associated pneumonia.
• Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, and in some cases, it can be severe. Pancreatitis may also occur, and users should report sudden and severe stomach pain, chills, constipation, nausea, vomiting, fever, or lightheadedness to their doctor immediately.
• All-Cause Mortality: There has been an observed increase in all-cause mortality in patients treated with Tygacil compared to comparators, though the cause is not established. It should be reserved for use when alternative treatments are not suitable.

Precautions

• Allergic Reactions: Serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, can occur. Users should seek immediate medical attention if they experience itching, hives, hoarseness, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or any swelling of the hands, face, or mouth.
• Storage: The reconstituted solution should be stored at room temperature not exceeding 25°C (77°F) for up to 24 hours or refrigerated at 2° to 8°C (36° to 46°F) for up to 48 hours.
