Tobrex: Effective Treatment for Eye Infections

Tobrex is a topical antibiotic solution designed to treat external eye infections. It contains tobramycin, a water-soluble aminoglycoside antibiotic that effectively targets a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive ophthalmic pathogens.

Each milliliter of Tobrex solution includes 0.3% tobramycin, which is the active ingredient. The preservative used is benzalkonium chloride at 0.01%. Other inactive ingredients include boric acid, purified water, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide and/or sulfuric acid (to adjust pH), sodium sulfate, and tyloxapol.

Tobrex is available in both eye drop and eye ointment forms. It is essential to use Tobrex as directed and to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any allergies or pre-existing conditions, especially if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

The signs of eye infections, such as redness, increased tearing, and discharge, may start to improve within three days after starting treatment with Tobrex. However, it is crucial to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed to ensure the infection is fully cleared.

If you are allergic to tobramycin or any of the other ingredients in Tobrex, or if you are allergic to other aminoglycoside antibiotics like amikacin, gentamicin, kanamycin, or paromomycin, you should not use Tobrex.
