Toradol: Effective Pain Relief for Moderately Severe Acute Pain

Toradol is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) designed to manage moderately severe acute pain, typically following an operation or other painful procedures. It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body, providing relief at the opioid level without the risk of addiction.

How It Works

Toradol is indicated for short-term use, up to 5 days, to treat pain that requires analgesia similar to opioids. It is available in both oral tablet and injectable forms. The oral form is taken by mouth, while the injectable form is administered by a healthcare provider as an infusion into a vein.

Important Information

• Dosage: For adults, the typical dosage is one 10-milligram (mg) tablet taken four times a day, four to six hours apart. Some patients may start with two tablets for the first dose.
• Administration: The injectable form is given in doses of 15 or 30 mg, injected into a muscle or vein four times a day, at least six hours apart. Some patients may receive a single dose of 60 mg.
• Contraindications: Toradol is contraindicated in patients with advanced renal impairment, those at risk for renal failure due to volume depletion, and those with suspected or confirmed cerebrovascular bleeding, hemorrhagic diathesis, incomplete GI tract obstruction, or previously documented peptic ulcers and/or GI bleeding.
• Side Effects: While effective, Toradol can cause serious gastrointestinal (GI) adverse events, including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach, small intestine, or large intestine. These risks increase with higher doses and longer treatment durations.

Safety Precautions

• Duration of Use: Toradol should not be used for more than 5 days, including both injection and oral tablets. Long-term use can damage your kidneys or cause bleeding.
• Monitoring: Patients should be monitored for signs of GI complications and renal function during treatment.
• Alternative Analgesics: Patients should be switched to alternative analgesics as soon as possible to minimize the risk of adverse reactions.

Storage

Toradol should be stored at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. The bottle should be kept tightly closed when not in use.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, skip it and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not use two doses at one time.
