• Dosage: The typical dosage for adults is 100-200 mg twice daily, which can be gradually increased by 200 mg per day as needed. For children aged 6-12 years, the initial dose is 100 mg twice daily, increasing by 100 mg per day weekly. The maintenance dose usually ranges from 400-1200 mg per day for adults and 400-800 mg per day for children.
• Side Effects: Common side effects include changes in blood, such as an increased tendency to bruise or bleed, fluid retention, and swelling. Less common side effects include abnormal involuntary movements, abnormal eye movements, diarrhea, constipation, and a range of other symptoms. In rare cases, more severe side effects such as disease of the lymph glands, folic acid deficiency, and generalized allergic reactions can occur.
