Gentamicin and Hydrocortisone Ear Drops for Infections and Inflammation.

These ear drops are designed to treat infections and inflammation in the outer ear. The active ingredients, gentamicin and hydrocortisone, work together to combat bacterial infections and reduce inflammation, pain, and itching. Gentamicin is an antibiotic that helps kill harmful bacteria, while hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that alleviates inflammation and discomfort.

Each 10ml bottle contains 0.3% gentamicin sulfate and 1% hydrocortisone acetate. The drops are sterile and isotonic, making them safe for use in the ear. They are indicated for treating otitis externa (infection of the outer ear) and for prophylaxis against otitis externa following trauma. The drops are also suitable for post-operative use in surgery to infected mastoid cavities.

To use the drops, clean the affected ear and instill 2-4 drops three to four times a day, or as needed. If you have a severe infection, you may need to use the drops more frequently. It is essential to check the condition of the ear drum before using these drops, as they should not be used if the integrity of the ear drum cannot be guaranteed.

While generally safe, these drops can cause local sensitivity, ototoxicity, and other side effects. It is crucial to follow the recommended dosage and consult a doctor if you experience any unusual symptoms. Long-term use should be avoided to prevent skin sensitization and the emergence of resistant organisms.
