Canesten Extra Topical Cream: Effective Treatment for Fungal Skin Infections
Canesten Extra Topical Cream is designed to treat fungal skin infections, such as dermatophyte and yeast infections, when inflammation is prominent. This includes conditions like fungal infected dermatitis, intertrigo, and Candida nappy rash. The cream contains 10 mg/g of clotrimazole, an antifungal agent, and 11.2 mg/g of hydrocortisone acetate, a mild steroid that reduces swelling and inflammation.
To use, apply a small amount of the cream thinly and evenly to the affected area(s) twice daily. Continue use until symptoms of inflammation, itching, and redness have subsided, but not for more than 7 days unless directed by a doctor. After symptoms disappear, switch to an antifungal-only cream like Canesten Clotrimazole Anti-fungal Cream for 14 days to prevent recurrence of the infection.
Important Notes:
- Contraindications: Avoid using on children under 2 years of age without consulting a doctor.
- Side Effects: Cetostearyl alcohol, an excipient in this medicine, may cause local skin reactions. Long-term use of corticosteroids can increase the risk of hypothalamic-pituitary axis suppression, especially under occlusion.
- Usage: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes and do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children.
This cream is a reliable solution for managing fungal skin infections and reducing associated inflammation. Always follow the instructions provided and consult a doctor if you have any concerns or if symptoms persist.
