Ephanac Tablet SR 100 mg is a medication designed to alleviate pain and inflammation associated with various joint conditions. It contains diclofenac sodium, which works by reducing the formation of substances in the body that cause pain and swelling.

What is it Used For?

1. **Rheumatoid Arthritis**: Ephanac helps manage symptoms like swelling, pain, and stiffness in joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis.

2. **Osteoarthritis**: It treats symptoms such as tender and painful joints associated with osteoarthritis.

3. **Ankylosing Spondylitis**: Ephanac relieves stiffness and pain in joints affected by ankylosing spondylitis.

4. **Dysmenorrhea**: It helps relieve excessive pain and cramps during menstruation.

5. **Mild to Moderate Pain**: Ephanac is used to alleviate pain from sprains, strains, sports injuries, and other mild to moderate pain conditions.

6. **Migraine**: It helps relieve acute pain in migraine.

7. **Bursitis**: Ephanac reduces swelling and pain in joints caused by bursae inflammation.

When Not to Use?

1. **Allergy**: If you have a known history of allergy to NSAIDs, Ephanac is not recommended. Severe allergic conditions like asthma and urticaria can be triggered.

2. **Peptic Ulcer**: Ephanac is not suitable for individuals with peptic ulcers or those suspected of having them, as it could cause severe stomach issues.

3. **Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG)**: It is not recommended for pain relief after CABG due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects.

Adverse Effects

Common side effects include transient epigastric pain, GI disturbances, headache, and oedema. Rarely, it can cause blood dyscrasias, peptic ulcers, liver and kidney function abnormalities, skin reactions, and pain at the injection site.

Dosage

Adults: Oral form: 75-150 mg daily in two or three divided doses. Suppositories: 75-150 mg rectally daily in divided doses. Injection: 75 mg IM once or twice daily by deep intragluteal injection for a maximum of 2 days. Continue if necessary with tablets.

Interactions

Ephanac interacts with several medications, including methotrexate, ramipril, adefovir, apixaban, and ketorolac, which can lead to severe adverse effects.

How to Use

For oral, topical, and rectal forms, use Ephanac as advised by your doctor. You can take the oral form with or after food. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than advised. If you experience any undesirable side effects, consult your doctor. Ensure that the treatment course is completed, and do not stop using the medicine without consulting your doctor.

For IV infusion, the maximum dose is 150 mg in 24 hours, and it should not be given by IV bolus injection. It must be diluted with 0.9% saline or 5% dextrose infusion solution.
