Blephamide Sop Opthalmic Ointment

Blephamide S.O.P. Ophthalmic Ointment is a specialized eye care product designed to treat inflammatory ocular conditions, such as conjunctivitis, corneal injuries, and chronic anterior uveitis. It combines the antibacterial properties of sulfacetamide sodium with the anti-inflammatory effects of prednisolone acetate to effectively manage both infection and inflammation.

Each milliliter of Blephamide contains 10% sulfacetamide sodium and 0.2% prednisolone acetate. The ointment is used to reduce edema and inflammation in the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe. It is particularly useful in situations where there is a risk of superficial bacterial ocular infection.

To use Blephamide, you should apply a small amount (about half an inch of ointment) into the conjunctival sac three to four times daily and once or twice at night. The dosage can be adjusted as the condition improves, but it is essential not to discontinue therapy prematurely. If signs and symptoms do not improve within two days, the patient should be re-evaluated.

Blephamide is supplied in 5 mL and 10 mL bottles and should not be used for more than 20 mL (8 grams) per therapeutic course without further evaluation. It is crucial to monitor for secondary ocular infections, such as fungal infections, and to check intraocular pressure in prolonged use.

This ointment is contraindicated in ocular fungal, viral, or mycobacterial infections. It is also important to avoid abrupt cessation of treatment and to monitor for adverse reactions such as ocular irritation, increased intraocular pressure, and cataract formation.
