Gentamicin 10mg injection is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, aqueous solution designed for parenteral administration. It is derived from Micromonospora purpurea, an actinomycete, and is part of the aminoglycoside group of antibiotics. Each ampoule contains 10mg of gentamicin sulfate, which is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Bacteroide spp., Clostridium difficile, Chlamydia spp., Chlamydophila spp., Mycoplasma spp., and Ureaplasma urealyticum.

Gentamicin works by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, inhibiting protein synthesis and ultimately leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. It is primarily eliminated unchanged in the urine by glomerular filtration, with a half-life of approximately 2-3 hours in patients with normal renal function. However, elderly patients may eliminate gentamicin more slowly.

Gentamicin is indicated for the treatment of various serious systemic infections, including bacteraemia, urinary tract infections, chest infections, and severe neonatal infections. It is administered intravenously, typically in doses of 4mg/kg body weight per day in three divided doses, with peak serum concentrations ranging from 5-10 ?g/ml for multiple daily dosing and 20-30 ?g/ml for once daily dosing.

This product is available in various concentrations, including 10mg/ml, 20mg/2ml, 40mg/2ml, 80mg/2ml, and 160mg/2ml.
