It contains heparin sodium, derived from the lungs or intestinal mucosae of pigs, and is available in 5,000 IU/5 mL or 25,000 IU/5 mL concentrations.

Heparin Injection is administered via intermittent intravenous injection or deep subcutaneous injection. The initial dose is typically 5,000 units by intravenous injection, followed by 10,000 to 20,000 units of a concentrated solution subcutaneously. The solution is clear, colorless to straw-colored, and is intended for single use only due to the absence of an antimicrobial agent.
