Hidrasec: Effective Relief for Acute Diarrhea
Hidrasec is a medication designed to provide symptomatic relief for acute diarrhea in infants and children, as well as adults. It is particularly useful when other treatments are not possible or effective. The granules for oral suspension contain 10 mg of racecadotril, which helps reduce the frequency of diarrhea by inhibiting the enzyme that causes fluid loss in the intestines.
How It Works
- For Infants and Children: Hidrasec is administered orally, usually in combination with oral rehydration therapy to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. The recommended dose varies by weight:
- Less than 9 kg: One 10 mg sachet three times daily.
- 9 kg to 13 kg: Two 10 mg sachets three times daily.
- Children under 13 kg: 1.5 mg/kg per dose, corresponding to 1 to 2 sachets, taken three times daily.
For Adults: The hard capsules contain 100 mg of racecadotril. The usual dose is one capsule taken three times daily, preferably before main meals.
Important Information
- Treatment Duration: Continue treatment until two normal stools are recorded, not exceeding 7 days.
- Fluid Replacement: Use Hidrasec in conjunction with an oral rehydration solution to replace lost fluids and electrolytes.
- Special Populations: There are no specific studies on infants under 3 months or children with renal or hepatic impairment.
Storage and Safety
- Storage: Keep Hidrasec out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
- Side Effects: If you experience any side effects, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Common side effects include prurigo and pruritus.
Hidrasec is a reliable option for managing acute diarrhea, especially when other treatments are not feasible. Always follow the recommended dosage and consult your healthcare provider for specific guidance.
