Maltofer Fol is a chewable tablet designed to treat and prevent iron deficiency, particularly during pregnancy and lactation. Each tablet contains 100 mg of iron in the form of an iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex and 0.35 mg of folic acid. Iron is essential for producing hemoglobin, myoglobin, and iron-containing enzymes, while folic acid is crucial for fetal development during pregnancy.
Maltofer Fol is used to address iron deficiency without anemia (latent iron deficiency) and to meet the increased need for folic acid. For prevention and treatment of iron deficiency, take one tablet daily. For treating iron deficiency with anemia, take one to three tablets daily, as directed by your doctor. The exact dosage and duration of treatment depend on the severity of the iron deficiency.
The tablet can be chewed or swallowed whole and should be taken during or after a meal. If you miss a dose, simply take the next one at the usual time without doubling up.
Common side effects include stool discoloration, diarrhea, nausea, and indigestion. These are usually temporary and harmless. However, if you experience any severe side effects such as allergic reactions, swelling, or shortness of breath, stop taking the medication and consult a doctor.
Store Maltofer Fol below 25°C. It is important to consult with your doctor before taking Maltofer Fol if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Maltofer Fol is a reliable option for addressing iron deficiency and ensuring adequate folic acid levels, especially during critical periods like pregnancy and lactation.
