Rotarix: Live Attenuated Rotavirus Vaccine for Infants

Rotarix is a live attenuated oral vaccine designed to prevent rotavirus gastroenteritis, a common cause of severe diarrhea and dehydration in infants. The vaccine contains the RIX 4414 strain of human rotavirus, which is derived from the 89-12 strain and propagated on a well-characterized Vero cell line. Each 1.5 mL dose contains not less than 106.0 CCID50 (cell culture infectious dose 50%) of the RIX 4414 strain.

Rotarix is indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis caused by G1 and non-G1 types (G3, G4, and G9) in infants aged 6 weeks to 24 weeks. The vaccine is administered orally and is manufactured with bovine-derived materials at the early stages of production.
