Janumet XR is a combination medication designed to help manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It contains sitagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide, which work together to improve glycemic control. The recommended starting dose is 50 mg of sitagliptin and 1000 mg of metformin extended-release. Janumet XR is not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. It is also contraindicated in patients with renal dysfunction, metabolic acidosis, and a history of serious hypersensitivity reactions. If you experience any symptoms of lactic acidosis, such as low pH, increased anion gap, and elevated blood lactate, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
