Pharmacology
Testosterone is the principal endogenous hormone essential for normal growth and development of male sex organs and secondary sex characteristics. During adult life, testosterone is crucial for the functioning of the testes and accessory structures, as well as maintaining libido, sense of well-being, erectile potency, prostate, and seminal vesicle function.
Treatment with Testanon results in a clinically significant rise of plasma concentrations of testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and androstenedione, along with a decrease in sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG). In males with primary (hypergonadotropic) hypogonadism, treatment normalizes gonadotropin levels. For female-to-male transsexuals, it leads to a clinically significant rise in plasma testosterone levels, a decrease in luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, and a decrease in SHBG levels.
Mode of Action
Testanon works by replacing the deficient testosterone in the body, thereby addressing the symptoms of hypogonadism. It helps in the development and maintenance of male reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics. Regular monitoring of electrolyte, haemoglobin, and calcium levels, as well as prostate health, is recommended during treatment.
