Amlodipine: Lower Blood Pressure and Relieve Chest Pain.

Amlodipine is a medication used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children aged 6 and older. It is also effective in managing certain types of angina (chest pain) and coronary artery disease (narrowing of the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart). This medication belongs to a class of drugs called calcium channel blockers, which work by relaxing the blood vessels. This relaxation allows blood to flow more easily to the heart, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke. If taken regularly, amlodipine helps control chest pain, but it does not stop chest pain once it starts. Your doctor may prescribe a different medication to take when you have chest pain. Amlodipine can be taken alone or in combination with other heart or blood pressure medications to achieve optimal results.
