Nitrostat Sublingual Tablets for Angina Relief.
Nitrostat is a medication used to treat angina, a type of chest pain that occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood. The pain can feel like a pressing or squeezing sensation in the chest, often extending to the shoulders, arms, neck, jaws, or back. Nitrostat works by relaxing blood vessels, which increases blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart, providing quick relief from angina attacks.
How to Use Nitrostat
- Dosage: Use the lowest effective dose. Take one tablet sublingually (under the tongue) or in the buccal pouch at the onset of pain. You can repeat the dose in 5 minutes if needed, but do not exceed three tablets in 15 minutes.
- Administration: Give the tablet at rest, preferably sitting. If you have dry mouth, take a small sip of water before administration.
- Prophylaxis: For preventive use, take the tablet 5-10 minutes before engaging in physical activity.
Important Information
- Contraindications: Do not use Nitrostat if you have severe anemia, increased intracranial pressure, acute circulatory failure, or shock. Also, avoid taking it with PDE-5 inhibitors like sildenafil or riociguat.
- Warnings: Be cautious if you have constrictive pericarditis, aortic or mitral stenosis, volume-depleted states, or hypotension. Nitrostat may cause dizziness, vertigo, or fainting, especially in elderly patients.
- Interactions: Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as they may interact with Nitrostat.
