Recormon: The Solution for Anemia Treatment

Recormon is a medication designed to treat anemia caused by chronic renal failure in patients on dialysis and those not yet on dialysis. It is also used to manage anemia in adult cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Additionally, it helps patients requiring autologous blood transfusions before surgery by increasing the amount of blood taken from the body.

Recormon contains epoetin beta, a synthetic recombinant erythropoietin that stimulates the production of red blood cells. This hormone is produced using genetic technology, mimicking the natural hormone erythropoietin.

How It Works

• For Renal Anemia: Administered subcutaneously or intravenously, Recormon helps increase red blood cell production, improving hemoglobin levels in patients with chronic kidney disease.
• For Cancer Patients: Given subcutaneously, it helps manage anemia caused by chemotherapy, ensuring patients have sufficient red blood cells to maintain their health.
• For Surgery Preparation: It increases the amount of blood taken during autologous blood transfusions, preparing patients for surgery.

Important Information

• Administration: The solution can be injected under the skin or into a vein. For patients on dialysis, it is usually administered at the end of dialysis sessions.
• Dosage: The initial dosage for renal anemia is typically 3 x 20 IU/kg body weight per week, which can be adjusted based on the patient’s response.
• Side Effects: Common side effects include headache, confusion, and unusual fatigue. In some cases, it may lead to a sharp increase in blood pressure or the development of antibodies against erythropoietin.

• Monitoring: Patients should be closely monitored to ensure the lowest effective dose is used, especially those with hypertension or cardiovascular diseases.
• Symptoms: If symptoms like skin peeling, ulcers, or fever occur, stop the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
